The Story Behind My Most Personal Song
Every songwriter has that one song that costs a little more to sing — the one tied to a real memory, a real ache, a real answered prayer. I want to share the story behind one of mine, because I think the story matters as much as the melody.
Where it began
It started during one of the hardest seasons I\'ve walked through, a season of long hospital shifts and even longer nights of doubt. I wasn\'t trying to write a song at first — I was just trying to survive the week.
Turning pain into lyrics
Slowly, the words that started as private journal entries began to form into verses. I didn\'t force the rhymes or the structure; I just kept being honest, and the song shaped itself around that honesty.
What the song taught me
- Some of our deepest worship comes out of our lowest valleys, not our highest mountains.
- Vulnerability in music often connects with people more than polish does.
- God can use even our unfinished, messy seasons as material for something meaningful.
Why I still sing it
Every time I perform that song, I\'m reminded of where I was and how far grace has carried me. It\'s no longer just a memory of pain — it\'s become a testimony of faithfulness.
If you\'re in a hard season right now, know that it might one day become the very thing God uses to minister to someone else through you.
