Swimming safety tips from us department of states
U.S. citizens die in drowning incidents abroad every year, and rip currents are particularly dangerous. If you plan to swim in the ocean while abroad, here are some tips to follow:
π Ask your hotel or host about beach safety and rip tides. Follow posted warnings.
π Do not swim alone or dive into waters of unknown depth.
π Most beaches do not have lifeguards. Do not go in the water if you do not know how to swim.
π Avoid alcohol while swimming.
π If in doubt, donβt get in. Even strong swimmers can overestimate their abilities in the ocean.
