Nutrition and the Spirit: Caring for the Body God Gave You
1 Corinthians tells us our bodies are a temple. As a nurse, I see the practical cost of ignoring that truth every day — and as someone of faith, I\'ve had to learn that caring for my body isn\'t vanity, it\'s stewardship.
Food as fuel, not just comfort
It\'s easy to reach for convenience when life is busy or stressful. But what we eat directly shapes our energy, our mood, and our ability to show up for the people and purposes God has placed in front of us.
Small, sustainable changes
- Add one more vegetable to your plate before removing anything else.
- Drink water first thing in the morning, before coffee.
- Cook one extra portion when you make dinner, so tomorrow\'s healthy choice is already made.
- Pay attention to how certain foods make you feel a few hours later, not just in the moment.
The spiritual side of self-discipline
Every time we choose nourishment over impulse, we\'re practicing a small act of discipline that strengthens the same spiritual muscle we use to resist other temptations. Caring for your body well is training for caring for your soul well.
Grace over guilt
This isn\'t about perfection or shame around food. It\'s about gratitude — recognizing that the body you live in was given to you on purpose, and it deserves to be cared for with the same compassion you\'d offer anyone else you love.
